Six minors have been detained for allegedly attacking a 16-year-old Class 11 student with a machete and other sharp weapons near Bhide Bridge, over a dispute from his Class 10 board exams.
Pune, November 4, 2026: Six minors allegedly attacked a 16-year-old Class 11 student with a machete and other sharp weapons near Bhide Bridge on Monday night. The student was seriously injured. According to police, the root of the attack is an old quarrel from the time of his Class 10 board examinations.
The incident took place at around 9.30 pm on November 2. The student had been called to meet near Hotel Muralidhar. It is alleged that when he arrived, the accused surrounded him and asked why he had complained to the police about the earlier quarrel. He was then attacked. He has injuries to his head, hands and fingers.
Police said the dispute began at Bharat English School in the Shimla Office area, where the student was taking his Class 10 exam. It is alleged that some students beat him up and also filmed him. They kept following him outside the school, and he went to the Shivajinagar police chowki. Later, parents on both sides intervened and police also counselled the students, after which the matter had been settled.
However, it is alleged that the accused continued to nurse resentment over his having told the police. Another quarrel took place on August 15 at Vrudheshwar Ghat in Shivajinagar. On Monday they called him to Bhide Bridge, questioned him about informing the police and attacked him as soon as he arrived.
The student's friends first took him to Poona Hospital. He was later shifted to Apollo Hospital, where he is being treated in the intensive care unit.
Deccan police have registered a case of attempt to murder and detained the six minors. Police Inspector Ranjitsinh Pardeshi is investigating the case.
