Washim District Collector Yogesh Kumbhejkar has said that the crop-cutting experiment must be completely accurate, transparent and reflective of ground reality. He directed the agencies working in the field to carry out the experiment carefully, in line with the prescribed rules and procedure.

The Collector said the data obtained from the experiment is very important for assessing the productivity of the district's various crops, the actual state of yields and how crops have performed during the season.

A soybean crop-cutting experiment was conducted on Wednesday at Ilkhi in Washim tehsil. Kumbhejkar visited the site and observed it himself. He took details of the area fixed for the experiment, the method of harvesting, the weight of the harvested produce and the entry to be made after the experiment. The total weight of the soybean crop recorded in the Ilkhi experiment was 2 kg 805 grams.

He directed that, since the data from the experiment is essential for many of the government's agriculture-related decisions, full care be taken to ensure there is no error of any kind while recording it.

The Collector also said that the yield figures from crop-cutting experiments are used to determine the average productivity of crops and to assess conditions in the farming sector. The exercise should therefore not be treated as a mere administrative formality, he said, and stressed that it must give a true picture of the actual condition of the field.

Tehsildar Nilesh Palaskar, District Superintending Agriculture Officer Arif Shah, supervisory officer and Tehsil Agriculture Officer Atul Jawale, Circle Agriculture Officer Shivaji Jadhav, Agriculture Officer Gangadhar Ingole and Assistant Agriculture Officer Sunil Gote were present.

Kumbhejkar said clearly that the prescribed standards must be strictly followed at every stage: selection of the experiment, the actual harvesting of the crop, the weighing of the produce and its recording. Data obtained at the field level should match farmers' actual yields. Officers and staff present during the experiment should therefore maintain transparency in the process and pay particular attention to accurate measurement and recording, he said.
