Rs 15,000 fine collected from shopkeepers littering Ellora Caves area in cleanliness drive

Under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, shopkeepers were fined, encroachments removed and saplings planted at the World Heritage Site in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

A cleanliness drive was carried out in the premises of the Ellora Caves, a World Heritage Site in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. During the drive, held in the presence of Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Minnu P.M., shopkeepers who littered the area were penalised and a total fine of Rs 15,000 was collected from them. Encroachments in the premises were also removed and saplings were planted at the spot.

Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Minnu P.M. and Additional Chief Executive Officer and District Rural Development Agency Project Director Vasudev Solanke visited the Ellora Caves premises on October 7. They noticed the filth and encroachments in the area, and action was taken against those concerned. The action continued until 9 pm.

The gram panchayat administration was instructed to keep the premises clean on a regular basis and to fine those who litter. The office of the Archaeological Survey of India was also asked to ensure regular cleaning of the premises.

On Thursday, October 8, a special cleanliness drive was carried out at 6 am in the Ellora Caves premises and at Mahavir Stambh Chowk. Officials and staff of the panchayat samiti, gram panchayat employees, members of women's self-help groups, ASHA workers and anganwadi workers took part in cleaning the area.

Chief Executive Officer Minnu P.M., Additional Chief Executive Officer Vasudev Solanke, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Santosh Gorad, Tahsildar Santosh Gutte, Block Development Officer Girish Sonar, Police Inspector Prashant Mahajan and Panchayat Extension Officer Deepak Bagul were present. Gram panchayat officers A.B. Bansod, Gangadhar Gaikwad, Prashant Waghmare, Vyankatesh Adamwad, Sachin Bansod and C.T. Ingole were joined by group coordinator Makarand Sunita, UMED manager Sunil Barble, Supriya Salunke and Devidas Chaudhari. Officials and staff of the departments concerned were also present.

Instructions were issued on the occasion that regular cleanliness drives be held so that the tourist spot is kept clean at all times, and that action be taken against those who violate the rules.
