The wrong-side cutter at Jatpura Gate in Chandrapur is now fully operational. It aims to ease traffic congestion in the area and curb the rising number of accidents caused by vehicles coming from the wrong direction. The administration has installed spike barriers at the spot.
The Jatpura Gate area faces traffic jams every day, and accidents were also increasing because of vehicles coming from the wrong side. The administration has taken this step to bring the problem under control. The device, called a "wrong-side cutter", which is in effect a spike barrier, has now been fully commissioned.
Motorists often drive straight into the wrong lane in a hurry or while taking a shortcut, posing a serious danger to the lives of others travelling in the correct direction. The decision has been taken to rein in this dangerous habit and bring discipline to the city's traffic.
Chandrapur Traffic Police have clarified that if a vehicle tries to enter the wrong way at the cutter, its sharp spikes will puncture or burst the tyres immediately. This can cause the vehicle owner considerable financial loss.
The traffic police also said that vehicles travelling in the correct, lawful direction will face no trouble or danger from the cutter. According to the administration, those who break the rules will not be let off with only the damage caused by the cutter. Legal action and fines under traffic rules will also follow.
The administration said the initiative has been taken entirely for public safety and traffic discipline. Driving on the wrong side puts one's own life and the lives of other innocent road users at risk. Motorists have therefore been urged to follow traffic rules fully.
To avoid fines or damage to their vehicles, the administration has requested people to drive in the correct direction by following the direction signboards on the road, and to cooperate with the city traffic police.
