The question of facilities for children at the Jambhulghat ashram school in Chimur has been raised once again. The school has 572 students, of whom 300 are boys and 272 are girls. Mahendra Bramhanwade visited the school to see conditions for himself.
Bramhanwade said that during the inspection he found there were not enough beds and that girls were having to sleep on the floor. He demanded that beds be provided immediately and vacant posts be filled. He also contacted the divisional commissioner by phone on the matter.
During the visit he spoke to the students and enquired about their accommodation, food, cleanliness, health facilities and the school's other arrangements. The students also placed their problems before him. He warned that no compromise on the quality of the children's food would be tolerated.
Bramhanwade also said there was information that some school staff were in the grip of addiction. He demanded an immediate inquiry into it. He further demanded that vacant posts be filled quickly, that the number of cleaning staff be increased and that the additional workload on one superintendent be reduced. He also stressed the need for regular health check-ups and health services for the children.
He asked why, even after the administration had been informed of such a serious situation, the officials concerned had not yet visited and inspected the ashram school. Raising this question, he phoned Divisional Commissioner Ayushi Singh and demanded an immediate inquiry into conditions at the school and necessary action.
Bramhanwade said, "It is a question of the safety, health and future of 572 students. The administration should not merely give assurances but actually provide facilities to the students. No compromise on their safety and welfare will be tolerated."
Congress office-bearers and workers were present on the occasion, including Pramod Chaudhari, Raju Kapse, Avinash Agde, Prashant Dawle, Milind Khobragade, Amol Malke, Rohan Nannaware, Kundan Padwekar, Nikhil Karmenge, Swapnil Dohtare, Harish Mule, Suraj Chaudhari, Amar Navghade, Hukumsingh Juni, Bagwan Dahare, Sameer Kulmethe, Madhukar Mungle, Jyotitai Mungle and Manjutai Ramteke.
