The body of Dhananjay Subhash Shete (41) was found inside his car after it fell into a deep roadside well at Aitwade Budruk in Walwa taluka of Sangli district. He was on his way home from work. The incident has caused grief across the area.
Shete worked at the Warana complex in Warananagar. On Tuesday night he was returning home by car after finishing work, as he usually did. While travelling on the Chikurde-Karanjawade road, the car went out of control and fell into a deep well by the roadside.
When Shete had not reached home late into the night, his family grew worried. He could not be reached on the phone either, and relatives began looking for him. The family searched through the night, but could not trace him for a long time.
On Wednesday, during the search, broken pieces of a car mirror and an indicator were found near a well on the Chikurde-Karanjawade road. This strengthened the suspicion that the car had fallen into the well, and gave the search an important lead.
However, the well was filled to the brim with water, which made it difficult to look for the car. The search continued until late on Wednesday night but had to be stopped because of the obstacles.
At 6 am on Thursday, a special crane and a high-power pump to drain the water were brought from Karad. Dinkar Kamble, an emergency lifeguard from Kolhapur, went down into the well and searched for the car. The car was then pulled out with the help of the crane and strong ropes after prolonged effort. Shete's body was found in the car.
Shete went missing on Tuesday night while heading home from work. On Wednesday the broken pieces of the mirror and indicator led the search to the well, and on Thursday his body was found when the car was pulled out. The car and the body were finally brought out after the family's overnight search and two days of effort.
Shete's untimely death has plunged the family into grief. He was of a friendly nature, and his death has caused sorrow in the Aitwade Budruk area. He is survived by his mother, wife, son and daughter.
