After food and drink, everyday household goods are also getting costlier. It is now the turn of laundry detergents. Hindustan Unilever has once again raised the prices of several packs of its well-known brands Wheel, Surf Excel and Rin in October.
The company has raised the prices of different products by 2.2% to 7.1%. Several of these products have become dearer for the second, third or fourth time this year.
Wheel powder's 1 kg pack, earlier priced at Rs 90, now costs Rs 93. The 500 g pack of the same powder has gone up from Rs 46 to Rs 47.
Surf Excel customers will also have to pay more. The 1 kg pack of Surf Excel Easy Wash is now available at Rs 172 instead of Rs 167. Its 500 g pack has been raised from Rs 85 to Rs 87.
Rin prices have risen too. The 500 ml pack of Rin Aala has been raised from Rs 90 to Rs 95. The 1 kg pack of Rin powder, earlier Rs 120, will now cost Rs 123, while the 500 g pack has gone up from Rs 61 to Rs 63.
This is not the first increase this year. The company has raised detergent prices several times before. Wheel powder has already become dearer by up to Rs 10. Surf Excel prices have gone up by about Rs 11 this year, and Rin prices have also risen sharply.
Wheel, Rin and Surf Excel are detergents used daily in households, so the increases will directly affect the monthly budgets of ordinary families.
Families that regularly buy larger packs will be hit harder. The main reason given for the repeated increases is the rising cost of raw materials and packaging.
