Sensex, Nifty set for positive open on GIFT Nifty cues after Friday's sharp fall; stocks to watch

The Indian stock market is expected to open on a positive note today, October 9, as GIFT Nifty has also signalled a good start.
Asian markets stayed weak on Friday. Heavy selling hit the main indices of the Indian market, with the Sensex falling by more than 1,000 points and the Nifty touching a 21-month low. While GIFT Nifty points to a good start, the market saw a big fall on Friday.
Overseas markets were also weak. The Nasdaq Composite fell 1.25 per cent, while the Nasdaq 100 lost 1.4 per cent. Japan's stock market also declined in the morning session on October 9. The Nikkei 225 index opened 0.57 per cent lower at 68,648.50 points, then slipped a further 1.03 per cent and settled at 68,330.05 points.
Investors in the Indian market may focus on several stocks today. These include IT stocks, ITC, TCS, Power Grid, KEC International, Gravita India, Arisinfra Solutions, Cochin Shipyard, Waaree Renewable Technologies, Tata Power, S&S Power Switchgear, Hexaware Technologies, PN Gadgil Jewellers, Rentomojo, Pace Digitek, SML Mahindra and IRB Infrastructure Developers.
Sumeet Bagadia, executive director of Choice Broking, has recommended five stocks to buy today: Hexaware Technologies, Sky Gold, Berger Paints, Mastek and PhysicsWallah.
Investors may also watch shares of Indian IT companies such as Infosys, Wipro, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), HCL Tech and Persistent Systems.
