Renault has officially announced the mileage of its new Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 SUV. According to the company, the SUV has received ARAI certification for 29 kmpl. The vehicle also produces 160 PS of power.
The SUV will make its official debut in India on October 17, 2026. Ahead of that, Renault India has opened bookings from October 9, 2026. Customers who want one can book the vehicle by paying Rs 21,000. Bookings can be made on the company's official website or at any Renault dealership across the country.
The new Duster E-Tech 160 has a 1.8-litre petrol engine, paired with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery pack. The full hybrid setup together delivers 160 PS. Notably, the SUV's battery does not need a separate charging station.
The SUV has a multi-mode automatic transmission. The system coordinates the petrol engine and the electric motors depending on driving conditions, speed and power demand. As a result, the vehicle can run on the electric motor alone in the right conditions. When more power is needed, the petrol engine steps in.
In Renault's strong hybrid technology, the energy generated while braking and slowing down is stored back in the battery. The system also keeps charging the battery as the vehicle runs, as required. So, unlike with an electric car, there is no need to arrange for charging. In city traffic, where frequent braking is needed, the energy savings could help.
Given the ARAI-certified mileage of 29 kmpl and 160 PS of power, this Duster could be an important option for customers who put fuel savings first. The petrol-electric setup may also attract customers who are considering a diesel SUV. However, the mileage actually delivered on the road will depend on driving style, traffic and road conditions.
More details on the SUV's price and the features in its different variants are expected after its India debut on October 17.
