A case of assault on a wife has been registered against her husband in Bharpayli village, under Savli police station in Chandrapur district. According to the woman's complaint, the husband, in a drunken state, beat their two-year-old daughter. When the wife intervened, he is alleged to have struck her on the head with an iron mortar. Savli police have booked the accused husband under serious sections.

According to information from the police, the complainant, Ankita Mayur Dandikwar, is 21 and lives in Bharpayli, Savli tehsil. She is married to Mayur Sharad Dandikwar, 25, and the couple have a two-year-old daughter. The complaint says Mayur has a drinking habit. It is alleged that, often in an inebriated state, he would needlessly suspect his wife, quarrel with her and beat her.

The incident is said to have taken place at around 7.30 pm on October 19. Ankita was asleep in the bedroom of the house at the time. She then heard the child crying from the kitchen room. When she went there, she saw Mayur beating the two-year-old. Ankita asked her husband why he was beating the child, saying she was small and what could she understand.

According to the complaint, the accused flew into a rage at this, retorted and began abusing her. He said he did not recognise his wife or the child, that she was not his wife and the child was not his daughter, that he would kill her, and asked who she was to tell him anything. It is alleged that he then beat Ankita badly with his hands and fists. He then picked up an iron mortar kept in the kitchen and struck her hard on the head.

Ankita's head was split by the blow and she began to bleed heavily. She sat down holding her head. The complaint also says the accused then threatened that if she did any more, he would kill her and the child.

Meanwhile, her mother-in-law Chhaya Dandikwar and sister-in-law Sakshi Dandikwar, who live in the house, arrived. Seeing them, the accused Mayur left. After some time, Ankita phoned her father, Bhaskar BitpallIwar, told him everything and called him over. She then went with her father to Savli police station and lodged a complaint against her husband.

On the basis of Ankita's oral statement, Savli police registered a case at about 1.27 am on October 20 under Sections 118(1), 351(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. Police constable Ajay Vijayrao Wadlawar is investigating the case further. These are all allegations made in the complaint.
