Chimur police have acted against illegal sand transport, stopping a tractor near the ITI on the Chimur-Warora main road. Goods worth a total of Rs 6 lakh 5 thousand, including the tractor, were seized. The tractor driver has been taken into custody and a case has been registered against him.
According to the information available, police employee Sachin Deorao Khamankar of Chimur police station was on special patrol with colleagues in the station's area against illegal sand transport. During this, police received a tip-off through an informer that sand was being secretly carried in a tractor from the direction of Khadsangi village towards Chimur.
Treating the information as serious, police set up a blockade on the orders of senior police officers in the ITI premises near the water tank on the Warora-Chimur main road. The blockade was laid at around 4 am in the presence of panch witnesses.
During the blockade, a suspicious tractor with a red engine and a red trolley was seen coming from the direction of Khadsangi. Police signalled it to stop in the light of a torch, and the driver parked the vehicle at the roadside. On questioning, he gave his name as Saurabh Dattu Dadmal. He is 27 years old and lives in Khadsangi, Chimur tehsil, Chandrapur district.
When police examined the tractor-trolley, they found about 1 brass of sand loaded in the trolley. Asked about the transport of the sand, its ownership and royalty, the driver could not show any legal permit or papers.
Police then seized, in the presence of panch witnesses, 1 brass of sand valued at Rs 5,000. The red Mahindra 575 DI tractor (number MH BR 7643), valued at Rs 6 lakh, used to carry the sand, and a trolley without a number plate were also seized. The total value of the seized goods is Rs 6 lakh 5 thousand.
On the complaint of police employee Sachin Khamankar, a case has been registered against the accused, Saurabh Dadmal, under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Police Havaldar Bhaskar Baliram Atram is investigating the case further under the guidance of the station in-charge and the police inspector.
