Nagpur district will observe the 70th Dhammachakra Pravartan Din this year. The arrangements that the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), the district administration and the Social Welfare department plan to make for the lakhs of followers expected at Deekshabhoomi were reviewed on Tuesday. The review was held by NMC Commissioner Vipin Itankar.

Additional Commissioner Ankit, Additional Commissioner Muruganantham M. and Additional Commissioner Milind Meshram attended the meeting at the NMC headquarters. Social Welfare department Assistant Commissioner Sukeshini Telgote and several senior NMC and police officials also took part.

Large numbers of Buddhist followers reach Deekshabhoomi from across the country. Officials have been directed to ensure all basic facilities are in place from October 18 to 22. All departments have been told to work in coordination.

CCTV cameras will be installed to keep the Deekshabhoomi premises under watch round the clock. Dedicated sanitation workers will also be deployed to keep the area clean.

The NMC will set up a control room for emergency assistance and public convenience. Plans have been prepared to ensure sanitation, power supply, drinking water, toilets and transport services run smoothly across the premises. The NMC will also set up temporary health centres at various places to look after the followers' health.

For accommodation, large domes will be erected for followers at locations such as the Deekshabhoomi premises, the Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Agricultural University campus, Mata Kacheri and the Kurvey School premises. The Social Justice department, the district administration and the NMC will arrange lodging and toilets at Bezonbagh ground and Untkhana ground.

Followers will bathe in Ambazari lake. Fire brigade teams and boats will be stationed for safety. To keep people from entering the lake water and to give them convenience, temporary changing rooms and toilets will be built near the lake.
