All major work on the long-awaited flyover at Vidyavihar railway station in Ghatkopar has been completed. The flyover connects Ramchandra Chemburkar Marg on the east with Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg (LBS Marg) on the west.
Work on the noise barriers is in its final stage. The flyover is to be opened to traffic by October 10, 2026, after all work is finished. It will make travel between the eastern and western suburbs faster and easier and save commuters considerable time.
Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar recently visited the project site with traffic police officers and inspected the flyover and the surrounding area. He also reviewed the traffic arrangements in the area. Bangar directed the officials concerned that the municipal corporation and the traffic police work together and take all necessary steps to keep traffic smooth, fast and safe once the flyover opens.
The flyover has two lanes and is 650 metres long in all. A 100-metre bridge has been built over the railway tracks. Approach roads of 220 metres on the east and 330 metres on the west have been built. The flyover has a good connecting route leading directly to the platforms of Vidyavihar station.
Within railway limits, the ticket window rooms on both sides, the station master's office and the staircases have also been rebuilt. Inside railway limits, a footpath via the staircases has been linked directly to the service road. Bangar expressed satisfaction after seeing all of this work.
Painting of the bridge, lighting, road work and the other remaining finishing work have been completed. The noise barrier work, which is particularly important for local residents, is in its final stage and is being done on a war footing. Bangar gave officials important instructions on traffic flow on the roads around the flyover, the main junctions, signals, vehicle movement and pedestrian safety.
Officials have been told to put in place, in coordination with the traffic police, proper direction signboards, barricading and effective traffic control wherever needed, so that traffic is not obstructed. They have also been ordered to prepare a precise plan under the traffic police's guidance so that the flyover's approach roads do not see jams during peak hours. The flyover will make the journey considerably easier for thousands of motorists and pedestrians in Vidyavihar and nearby areas.
