The civic body and district administration have set an October 14 deadline to complete facilities for the crowds expected at Deekshabhoomi.
Lakhs of followers visit Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur every year for Dhammachakra Pravartan Din, and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation and district administration have again stepped up preparations to accommodate them. With the huge turnout expected on the occasion in mind, work is moving fast to arrange essential civic facilities at the Deekshabhoomi premises.
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar has given officials clear instructions that the security wall being built at the Deekshabhoomi premises should be constructed in a strong and safe manner. Officials have also been told to prioritise cleanliness, drinking water, toilets and other essential facilities for followers not just on the day of the main event but on the other days as well. The commissioner has set a deadline of completing all preparations before October 14.
To review the arrangements being made by the civic body for Dhammachakra Pravartan Din, Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar and District Collector Shri Kumar Ashirwad made a joint visit to the Deekshabhoomi premises. Office-bearers of the Parampujya Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Committee also accompanied the two officials during the visit. Together they toured the entire premises, checking the various arrangements, and reviewed the current status of the security wall under construction in particular.
Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar reiterated that the security wall should be built strongly and correctly so that there is no lapse in the safety of the large number of followers expected during the event. He also closely reviewed the cleanliness arrangements at the premises, the availability of toilets, the levelling of ground and other facilities. Officials have been instructed to ensure all arrangements are completed on schedule so that devotees face no inconvenience.
The commissioner and the district collector also inspected the areas surrounding the main event venue at Deekshabhoomi, besides the venue itself. During the visit, they also looked at the arrangements for temporary toilets being built behind the building of the Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Management Studies and Research.
Arrangements for toilets at the parking area of the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and the Social Justice Bhavan premises were also reviewed. The rest house and other facilities being built at the Ambazari Lake premises were inspected as well.
