A theft has been reported at a wine shop in the CBC Mall area on Nagpur Road in Chandrapur city. An unidentified thief broke the shutter of Manohar Wine Shop and made off with about Rs 65,000 in cash kept in the counter. Thefts have been rising steadily in the city, and the thieves are now targeting shops directly. A case has been registered at Ramnagar police station, and police are searching for the thief.

The shop's owner, Savin Sanjay Berde (41, a resident of Balaji Ward, Chandrapur), runs Manohar Wine Shop in the CBC Mall at Wadgaon on Nagpur Road. As usual, he closed the shop at 10 pm on October 12, 2026. He took Rs 1.44 lakh from the day's transactions with him.

The remaining coins and small change, about Rs 65,000 in all, had been left in the shop's counter. It included Rs 5 coins and notes of Rs 50 and Rs 100. He then locked the shutter and went home.

At 7.30 am the next day, October 13, shop employee Jitendra Ganveer phoned the complainant, Savin Berde. He said the shop's lock was broken and the shutter was half open.

On learning this, Berde rushed to the shop with a friend. On checking inside, it became clear that the Rs 5 coins and the Rs 50 and Rs 100 notes kept in the counter, Rs 65,000 in all, were missing.

The shop's CCTV footage shows an unidentified man breaking the shutter lock and entering the shop at night, and fleeing after the theft. The theft thus took place between the closing of the shop and the employee seeing the broken lock in the morning.

On the complaint of shop owner Savin Berde, Ramnagar police have registered a case against the unidentified thief under Sections 305(a) and 334(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police are searching for the thief. Sub-inspector Krishna Pralhad Darade is investigating the case further.
