A case has been registered over an alleged assault on police personnel on night patrol in Chandrapur, who were attacked and shoved. Ramnagar police station has booked the son of Lali, the owner of DNR Travels, under various sections. The police are searching for the accused.

The incident took place on the night of September 27, 2026, on the Chandrapur-Nagpur road, in front of Pant Hospital. According to the information available, police constables Praveen Sheshrao Sontakke and Mangesh Saykar of Ramnagar police station were the second duty officers that night. Their duty ran from 8 pm to 8 am.

At about 11 pm, the police received a phone call saying a fierce fight was under way in front of Pant Hospital. Treating the matter as serious, the two policemen reached the spot immediately in an official vehicle.

On arriving, the police saw two or three men wearing turbans beating up youths of a Ganesh mandal. Before the situation worsened, Constable Praveen Sontakke and his colleague intervened and tried to separate the Ganesh mandal workers from those beating them.

According to the complaint, a man in a turban began hitting one of the Ganesh mandal youths again. When the police stopped him, he lunged at the constable on duty and shoved him hard. He also openly threatened the police: "Do what you can, I will see to you."

Meanwhile, another police vehicle was seen approaching, and the accused fled the spot in his own vehicle. Ganesh mandal workers present told the police that the man who attacked and threatened them is the son of Lali, owner of DNR Travels.

On Constable Praveen Sontakke's complaint, a case has been registered at Ramnagar police station under Sections 132, 221 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, for attacking and shoving police during official duty and obstructing government work through threats.

Further investigation has been handed to Sub-Inspector Ashwini Shyamrao Wakde. The police are searching for the absconding accused.
