Dispute over ad board in Chandrapur turns violent, ex-corporator among several booked
A row over installing an advertisement board outside a Chandrapur shop escalated into an assault, with a woman alleging she was manhandled and threatened.
A dispute over installing an advertisement board at a shop near Shitala Mata Mandir in the Bengali Camp area of Chandrapur escalated into a case at Ramnagar police station. The complainant, a woman shopkeeper, has had a case registered against former corporator Ajay Sarkar and his family members, along with a few others, under charges of assault, manhandling and vandalism. Police said further investigation is underway.
According to information received, the incident took place on the evening of September 25, 2026, around 5 pm. Because biscuit sales were high at the complainant's shop, a company sent a vehicle and some staff to install an advertisement board outside it. As there was not enough space in front of the shop, the workers parked the vehicle in front of the house of Ajay Sarkar, a BJP worker and former corporator who lived next door, and began unloading material to put up the board. Sarkar, his son, wife and daughter strongly objected to the board being installed, allegedly abusing and assaulting the company workers with their hands and fists.
Hearing the commotion, the complainant and her son rushed to help and called the company workers into their house. It is alleged that Ajay Sarkar and his son forced their way into the house as well. When the woman tried to stop them, Sarkar allegedly grabbed her hands, choked her and kicked her in the stomach. It is further alleged that his son entered the house with a spade and assaulted her, pushing and shoving her, while the daughter is accused of vandalising items in the shop.
Ajay Sarkar allegedly knocked down the complainant's Honda Activa (registration number MH 34 CT 7616) parked outside and broke its number plate, damaging the vehicle. Some people present at the scene are also alleged to have threatened to kill the woman and her son.
Following the incident, the woman filed a complaint at Ramnagar police station. Based on her complaint, police have registered a case (FIR No. 1133/2026) against Ajay Sarkar and his family, along with Shrinivas and three unidentified persons, under sections 74 (assault on a woman), 333, 351(2), 352, 115(2), 296, 324(4), 189(1), 189(2), 189(4), 190, 191(1), 191(2) and 191(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Ramnagar police are investigating further.
