A sessions court in Meerut on Wednesday, October 14, delivered its verdict in the blue drum murder case, which drew attention across the country, also known as the Saurabh Rajput murder case. The court sentenced Saurabh's wife Muskan Rastogi and her lover Sahil Shukla to death. Both were also sentenced to seven years' imprisonment each for destroying evidence.

For security reasons, the two accused were produced in court through video conferencing from the district jail. As soon as the court announced the death sentence, there was commotion in the courtroom. On hearing the sentence, Muskan broke down in tears and said, "Take care of my two daughters..." Saurabh Rajput's mother Renu Devi and his brother were present in court during the hearing.

After the verdict, Renu Devi expressed satisfaction. She said, "The justice we wanted has been delivered today. We had been fighting for this justice for several months, and today the court has given it. We will always be grateful to our lawyers and associates. We now have no relationship with the girl who is in jail. But if her maternal grandparents hand over her elder daughter to us without any conditions, we will certainly keep her with us."

The case came to light in Meerut in March 2025. Muskan, with the help of her lover Sahil, had brutally murdered her husband Saurabh Rajput. After the murder, the two cut Saurabh's body into pieces and stored them in a blue drum. The incident caused a sensation across the country.

The trial began in July 2025. Over about 13 months of legal proceedings, the court held 126 hearings and recorded statements of more than 22 witnesses. Finally, considering all the evidence and the gravity of the crime, the court sentenced both accused to death.
