Prime Minister Narendra Modi has completed 25 years in office as head of government. On the occasion he addressed the nation. He appeared quite emotional while speaking and also sought to inspire people. He gave a new slogan, "We will do it... We will show it by doing it", and appealed to 140 crore Indians to unite to build a Viksit Bharat.
Modi was first sworn in as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001. Since then, he has been continuously engaged in public service, and is now Prime Minister. He said the entire journey was the result of the blessings of the people and the strength of the Constitution.
In his address, Modi recalled the different turns of his political career. He thanked all those who stood by him, those who opposed him, those who gave him victory and those who handed him defeat. Modi said that those who made him win taught him humility, and those who brought him down taught him to stand up again with determination.
He said critics gave him a chance to improve himself, while supporters gave him a great sense of strength in trust. According to Modi, his opponents made him understand the real strength of democracy. Every crisis tested his resolve and every success inspired him to move towards a bigger goal.
The Prime Minister said no event in his life had gone to waste and every occasion taught him something new. Recalling the devastating Bhuj earthquake of 2001, he said that disaster gave him the strength to rise again from zero and build anew. The early difficulties of the Chandrayaan mission showed how one learns from failure and flies higher, he said. The courage the country showed during the Covid pandemic made clear the importance of the nation's collective consciousness and unity.
Modi also said that good and bad experiences with the media gave him the skill to move ahead. Ordinary and poor people of the country inspired him to dream big even with limited means and to hold firm resolve to fulfil those dreams. He said that when he took charge as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001, he had not imagined that he would see such a golden period 25 years later. On the occasion, he sincerely thanked all his political colleagues in the BJP, the NDA and all who have faith in democracy.
In the speech, Modi bowed to the Constitution, placing it above all else. He said he went to a temple and prayed to God so that he could serve the countrymen with more strength and energy. Modi said he had only one request: that God give him the strength to serve 140 crore countrymen. According to him, every citizen of the country is a form of God to him, and the people's trust has been his greatest strength.
Modi reiterated that the administrative and political experience he has gained over the past 25 years is not merely his personal capital but the property of the entire nation. He said every citizen of the country has a claim on this wealth. Expressing firm confidence that he would see through the work he has taken up, he raised the slogan "We will do it... We will show it by doing it!" and sought to fill the public with fresh energy and resolve.
