Four trucks found running on one registration number in Nagpur; two arrested for fake number plates
Crime Branch seized four trucks, biscuits and rice worth Rs 55.10 lakh in Kalamna Market area, where three vehicles carried fake plates of a fourth truck's number.
The Crime Branch in Nagpur has caught a fake number plate case in the Kalamna Market area. Police found that four trucks were running on the road with the same registration number, which was the authorised number of only one truck.
The anti-vehicle theft squad seized all four trucks and arrested two accused. Police seized goods worth a total of Rs 55,10,172, comprising Parle-G biscuits, 210 sacks of rice and the four trucks.
The number MH 40 CT 8683 had been allotted to one Eicher truck. Fake number plates of the same number were made and fixed on the other three trucks. Police suspect that loans and instalments on the vehicles were outstanding, and that this was done to avoid seizure by banks and finance companies. The seized trucks include two Eicher Pro 1110, one Tata 1109 and one Eicher Pro 2110.
The squad had received information that four trucks with the same number plate were parked in a parking lot in the Kalamna Market area. Police then raided the parking lot on October 5 between about 12.50 am and 2.30 am. All four trucks were found carrying the number MH 40 CT 8683.
The inquiry established that the number was authorised for one of the trucks, while the other three carried fake plates of the same number. Rajendra Singh Satnam Singh Randhawa (51) and Sukhdev Singh Rajendra Singh Randhawa (24) have been arrested. Another accused, Shiva Singh Laxman Jadhav, is absconding and police are searching for him.
After taking the four trucks into custody, police also examined the goods loaded in them. One truck held Parle-G biscuits and 210 sacks of rice. Including the vehicles and the goods, property worth a total of Rs 55,10,172 was seized. A case has been registered at Kalamna police station.
