After smartphones, Nothing appears to be heading down a new path. The company recently launched two new Bluetooth speakers. Now there is talk that Nothing will soon step into the world of smart glasses. The information comes from a tipster.
The UK-based company is said to be building AI-powered smart glasses in two kinds. Tipster Roland Quandt shared the information on Bluesky. According to him, Nothing is working on two smart glasses, and the features of the two will differ.
The first pair will be for audio only, meaning headphones will be built into the glasses. Users will be able to listen to songs and audiobooks, make phone calls and use the phone's voice assistant. Use will be simple and straightforward.
The second pair will be somewhat heavier. It will have all of the above features and a camera as well. It is said to come with ChatGPT support and a translation feature. This means the wearer will be able to take photos, ask the AI questions and translate into any language.
Both glasses will have photochromic lenses. Such a lens darkens automatically in sunlight and turns clear again indoors. The technology will be the same as in Meta's Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Photos or designs of the glasses have not yet emerged. There is also no information on the price, the battery life or the launch date.
Nothing recently launched the Nothing Headphone (1) Pro. The audio-only glasses could therefore complement its headphone line. The camera-equipped pair will be more powerful, because separate hardware will be needed for photography and AI features.
For now, Meta dominates the smart glasses market. A few days ago it launched the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, which has a 12-megapixel camera, 3K video recording and new hardware. An audio-only Ray-Ban Meta Audio glass is also on offer.
Besides Meta, Samsung and Google are also working on smart glasses with brands such as Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. Apple is also rumoured to be making smart glasses, but this has not been confirmed. It will be worth watching how Nothing carves out its own place in this crowd. Nothing's designs have always been distinct and transparent, so its smart glasses are expected to look different as well.
