Nivam Orthopaedics has partnered with Surya Hospitals to set up a network of specialised centres in Mumbai for the treatment of bones and joints. According to information made public on October 20, 2026, Nivam Orthopaedics was founded by orthopaedic surgeons Dr Nilen Shah and Dr Manan Shah.
The network's centres at Santacruz and Chembur are already operational. The main Santacruz centre will be formally inaugurated on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra. A centre is also expected to open in Kandivali by the end of the year, to be followed by one in South Mumbai.
The centres are designed to offer all kinds of treatment with the patient at the centre. Modern medical technology and the services of orthopaedic specialists will be available together. The partnership combines Nivam's specialised orthopaedic expertise with Surya Hospitals' established medical infrastructure and multi-department capabilities.
The centres will treat joint disorders, spinal disorders, sports injuries and orthopaedic trauma. This includes primary and complex joint replacements, revision procedures, and robotic-assisted and minimally invasive surgery.
The treatment will be available across the patient's entire journey, from diagnosis and treatment planning to surgery, care during and after surgery, physiotherapy and rehabilitation. It has been stated that, after thorough evaluation, surgery will be performed only on patients for whom it is medically necessary. The centres will also run departments equipped for non-surgical treatment. Emphasising appropriate patient selection, safety and recovery, treatment options will be decided according to each patient's own medical needs.
Dr Bhupendra S. Awasthi, founder-chairman and managing director of Surya Hospitals, said: "Our collaboration with Nivam Orthopaedics is bringing additional specialised orthopaedic expertise to all Surya centres in Mumbai. Surya is already known for paediatric orthopaedic care. Also, women account for around 80 per cent of joint and orthopaedic problems, including joint replacement, so this is a natural extension of our specialised services."
Awasthi added: "Dr Nilen Shah and Dr Manan Shah have developed a focused model for joint replacement and all kinds of orthopaedic care. Together, we intend to make these services more easily available at our hospitals, and to support patients at every stage of treatment and recovery."
