The RSS held its Dussehra event in Nagpur. Addressing it, Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat said the principle of unity is steadfast and eternal, while our diversity keeps changing. According to him, forgetting unity in diversity has weakened us. He also said that forgetting our own conduct has led to our decline.

Bhagwat said flexibility within diversity is a hallmark of Sanatan Dharma. In his view, people should therefore keep their discernment alive and learn new things. He said the responsibility of making India a Vishwaguru now rests on the shoulders of the new generation.

According to Bhagwat, great men made sacrifices to protect "swa" (the self). He told the countrymen that a sacrifice even greater than that of the freedom movement would now have to be made.

Referring to the Preamble of the Constitution, he said it describes us as "We, the people of India". Bhagwat said this is the identity of a society that is emotionally one despite its diversity. He said guidance on how to strengthen this emotional bond also comes from the directive principles of the Constitution. According to him, we kept declining from our position as a Vishwaguru and had to endure foreign rule for many years.

On Nepal, Bhagwat said it is necessary to think about why a natural crisis struck there. He said such crises keep occurring across the Himalayan region. He also said that if we keep advancing in the name of development, there will be no human beings left to develop.

On India's growing contacts with many countries, Bhagwat said the relationships that have been built should continue. He said science and technology are progressing and should progress. But it should also be remembered, he said, that every kind of information has become open to everyone through them.

Bhagwat said the Sanatan tradition in India has long made people aware of this very truth. According to him, the tradition says that just as the diversity of this creation is natural and changing, the oneness of all existence is equally eternal, firm and unshakeable truth.
