The death of a married woman in the Satpur police station area of Nashik has caused a stir. It is said that the woman, worn down by physical and mental abuse by her husband, who works in the police, consumed poison and took her own life. Police have registered a case of abetment of suicide against seven people, including the husband. The husband has been arrested.

The deceased was Deepali Anil Pawar, 32, who lived in the Classic Niketan Apartment in Mahatmanagar. Her husband, Anil Pawar, is a senior clerk in the office of the Nashik Rural Superintendent of Police. He was arrested by Satpur police. A Nashik court has sent him to police custody till October 9.

According to the information available, Deepali had bought a flat in Ahilyanagar with her own earnings. It is alleged that her husband and in-laws were repeatedly pressing her to transfer the flat to her brother-in-law Sunil. Distressed by this, Deepali consumed poison.

Even after consuming poison, Deepali did not give up and drove herself to a hospital. It is alleged that her husband Anil refused to bear the cost of treatment and left his wife, in a serious condition, on the steps of the district hospital and went away.

Deepali was a nurse at the primary health centre in Jategaon. Anil was earlier posted with the SRPF, Daund, and is now in the office of the Nashik Rural Superintendent of Police. The complaint alleges that Anil kept Deepali's salary ATM card with him and withdrew money from her account. When Deepali asked for the card back for the education of their seven-year-old son, the abuse against her worsened, according to the complaint.

It is also alleged that whenever a call came from Deepali's workplace, Anil doubted her character. This led to quarrels and beatings. Deepali had earlier also filed a domestic violence complaint.

After consuming poison, Deepali phoned her father and told him everything. Her father immediately sent his son Bhushan to Nashik. Bhushan admitted Deepali to a private hospital, but she died during treatment.

The case has been registered at Satpur police station on the complaint of Deepali's father, Sayaji Gaikwad, a resident of Trimbak. Those named are her husband Anil Pawar, mother-in-law Sushila, father-in-law Sonyabapu, brother-in-law Sunil, sister-in-law Suvarna, husband's sister Rekha Dhotre and her husband Kishor Dhotre. All seven face the charge of abetment of suicide. Except for Anil, all the others live in Ghargaon in Shrigonda. Police sub-inspector Rahul Nalkande is investigating the case further.
