Nagpur: Man held for killing married lover with hammer, staging death as electrocution
A 33-year-old electrician from Jalgaon has been arrested for killing his 38-year-old lover in Nagpur and trying to pass it off as an accident.
Nagpur: Fed up with being pressed to marry, a young man killed his married lover and, to make it look like an accident, also gave her an electric shock from a geyser after striking her on the head. Police uncovered the truth from the post-mortem report and arrested the accused. The accused, Javed Shaikh Shahid Manyar (33), is a resident of Shiv Colony, Jalgaon.
The deceased, Kavita (38), lived in the MIDC police station premises. Her husband works as a labourer. According to sources, Kavita had been in a relationship with Javed for 15 years. Javed used to come to Nagpur to meet her. Kavita wanted to leave her husband and live with him, and was therefore pressing Javed to marry her. Javed kept putting it off. The two had been quarrelling over this for several days. To get rid of her, Javed planned her murder. He killed Kavita by striking her on the head with a hammer. Javed is an electrician. To make the incident look like an accident, he applied current from a geyser to Kavita's body at four places.
On the morning of October 12, Kavita's husband took her to AIIMS, saying she had received an electric shock while heating water. Kavita was declared dead there. MIDC police registered a case of accidental death and began an investigation. The post-mortem report revealed a head injury and that current had been applied to the body. Police suspicion deepened because of the head injury and because there were marks of electric current at four places on the body instead of one. The investigation revealed that Kavita had an illicit relationship with Javed. At the time of the incident, Javed was near Kavita's house. He then reached Jalgaon. Police raided Jalgaon and took Javed into custody. He confessed to the murder. He said he killed her because she was pressing him to marry.
