Nagpur: 17-year-old girl kills drunk father with cricket bat during night-time quarrel
A Class 12 student struck her 45-year-old father on the head with a wooden bat in Bahujan Nagar, killing him on the spot; police have registered a murder case.
A shocking incident was reported from the Bahujan Nagar area, under the MIDC police station limits in Nagpur. A 17-year-old girl struck her father, who was abusive at home while drunk, on the head with a wooden bat, and he died on the spot.
The girl is a Class 12 student. She lives with her parents and a younger brother. The father, who died, was 45 and was addicted to alcohol. He came home drunk almost every day, then abused and harassed his daughter and wife. He is also said to have beaten the girl and behaved indecently with her.
Because the father drank, the mother ran the household by working as a domestic help and raising the children. She too was tired of her husband's daily harassment.
On the night of October 5, the father came home drunk. At 12 midnight, he picked a quarrel and began abusing the girl, and also behaved indecently with her. When she resisted, he flew into a rage and an argument began between the two. According to the girl, the father began beating her during the argument. In anger, she struck him on the head with a wooden bat. Seriously injured, the father died on the spot.
After the incident, the girl herself called 112 and informed the police. MIDC police then reached the spot and the body was taken to a hospital.
The girl and her mother both say they were tormented by the father's harassment. As the girl is a minor, police are proceeding with restraint in the investigation. A case of murder has been registered and an investigation has begun.
According to police, the investigation is still on. The mother and daughter also say they were distressed by the daily abuse, beating and indecent behaviour while he was drunk. The mother supported the children by working as a domestic help, and the girl was studying. MIDC police are investigating the quarrel that night, the blow with the bat and the father's death on the spot.
