A late-night dispute over unpaid money and the return of a sound system ended in a killing in Nagpur on Monday. A 29-year-old DJ operator was allegedly stabbed to death by a group of nine people, three of whom are minors. All of them had worked with him at a musical event for Durga Puja.

The deceased has been identified as Abhijit Sidam, a resident of Pandhrabodi, behind the Ambazari police post. The attack took place in the Gittikhadan police station area, on Borgaon Road opposite the Dinshaw factory. Sidam, who suffered severe stab wounds, was rushed to Mayo Hospital but died during treatment.

Police have detained nine suspects in connection with the murder. They are investigating the exact role each of them played in the fatal attack.

According to the preliminary investigation, Sidam ran a DJ business. He had hired the suspects to operate his sound equipment and provide music at a Durga Puja event. A dispute is said to have arisen between them over money. The group then allegedly kept the sound system with themselves.

On Monday night, Sidam went with a friend to meet the group, intending to take back his equipment and settle the unpaid dues. The dispute over the equipment and money turned into a violent scuffle, and Sidam was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon.

He was seriously injured in the attack and was taken to Mayo Hospital, but could not be saved.

Six of the detained suspects are adults. They are Shrishant Sadmake (19), Mahesh Wadhwe (18), Rushabh Sadmake (21), Adesh Krishna Sadmake (22), Romesh Sadmake (27) and Shivraj Sadmake (18). The remaining three are minors, and proceedings against them are being conducted under the provisions of the juvenile justice law.

Investigating officers are working to establish the sequence of events that led to the murder. Police are trying to find out who delivered the fatal blows, who took part in the attack, and whether any of the suspects had planned it in advance.

Police are also examining the background of the initial dispute, including the unpaid money and the matter of the sound system being kept by the suspects. They are looking into how what was an ordinary business disagreement turned into fatal violence. Further action will depend on the evidence gathered and on each person's role as it becomes clear in the investigation.
