Nagpur man dies after minor daughter hits him with bat during alleged assault; she is detained

Police say the 45-year-old, drunk, tried to force himself on his minor daughter in MIDC area; she struck his head with a bat in self-defence.

A 45-year-old man died in Nagpur's MIDC police station area on Monday night after his minor daughter hit him on the head with a bat. According to police, the man, who was drunk, had tried to force himself on her. She picked up a bat kept in the house to defend herself. He fell bleeding and died before he could receive treatment.

Police said the incident took place around 8 pm. His wife was away from home for work and their son had gone out to play, leaving only the father and daughter at home. Police said the man returned drunk and tried to force himself on his daughter. When she resisted, the situation escalated. He is alleged to have abused her and begun beating her with kicks and punches.

Police said that to protect herself, the girl picked up a bat lying nearby and struck her father on the head. Seriously injured, he collapsed on the spot and died shortly afterwards.

The mother reached home in the meantime, and the daughter told her everything. The daughter then called 112 herself to inform the police. MIDC station in-charge Baburao Raut reached the spot immediately with his team. The man was taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police said that after the panchnama, a murder case has been registered on the complaint of the man's wife. The minor girl has been taken into custody. As she is a minor, further legal action against her is being taken under the provisions of juvenile justice law.

Police said the man was a heavy drinker and for that reason did not go to work regularly. Police also said he had an evil eye on his daughter. He is alleged to have made obscene advances towards her when no one else was at home, and to have abused and beaten her when she resisted. The girl had earlier told her mother about this.
