Nagpur Central Jail staffer accused of assaulting lawyer who came to file vakalatnama

Nagpur: A lawyer who had gone to Nagpur Central Jail to file a vakalatnama was attacked and injured by a jail employee.

Gaurav Vanjari, a lawyer who lives in Ravi Nagar, had gone to the jail on the night of October 27 with his associate Shrikant Nimje to file the vakalatnama. Amol Yewtkar, a jail employee present there, allegedly hurled obscene abuse at Vanjari while drunk. He began questioning why they had come to the jail at night.

Shrikant ignored him, finished the work and returned. Amol followed them on a motorcycle and stopped Gaurav near Shankar Nagar Chowk, where he began abusing him. Gaurav began recording Amol on his mobile phone. Amol then grabbed his throat and hair from behind and tried to snatch the phone. He struck Gaurav on the forehead with the bracelet he was wearing on his hand.

Gaurav was injured on the head and was taken to the Medical hospital for treatment. On Gaurav Vanjari's complaint, Dhantoli police have registered a case against the accused, Amol Yewtkar, and begun an investigation.
