Nagpur: A jail constable allegedly assaulted a lawyer, and Dhantoli police have registered a case against him. The accused is Amol Yewatkar Patil. The case is based on a complaint by advocate Gaurav Digambar Vanjari (26), a resident of Jagat Apartment, Ravinagar.
According to the information available, Vanjari went to the Central Jail on a moped with a friend at around 10 pm on Tuesday to file the vakalatnama for an accused lodged there. After filing it, they were leaving the jail premises on the moped when Amol and a companion arrived on a motorcycle. Amol abused Vanjari and said, "Is this a time to come to the jail?" before going inside the premises.
Returning after some time, Amol abused Vanjari again and left on the motorcycle towards Ajni Chowk. Vanjari asked the security guard posted there for the man's name. The guard told him that the motorcyclist was Amol Yewatkar Patil.
At around 11 pm, Vanjari reached Shankar Nagar Chowk. Amol arrived there at the same time and began abusing him. When Vanjari started recording him on his mobile phone, Amol tried to snatch the phone and attacked him with an iron kada, then fled the spot.
After receiving treatment, Vanjari lodged a complaint with Dhantoli police. Police have registered a case against Amol for abuse and assault. The jail administration has issued a notice to Amol, and further action will be taken against him as per rules once the police report is received.
