Nagpur Central Jail inmate booked for punching cellmate in the eye over snoring

A trivial matter led to a quarrel between two inmates of Nagpur Central Jail that escalated into a physical fight. The row was over snoring during sleep. One prisoner's loud snoring is said to have repeatedly woken the inmate sleeping next to him. The dispute escalated, and one prisoner is alleged to have landed a heavy punch on the other's right eye. The second inmate was seriously injured. The incident caused a brief commotion inside the jail.

According to the information available, the incident took place at around 4.35 am on November 4 in Barrack No. 4 of the jail's "Badi Gol" section. Satish Rajan Paisadeli (29) and Manish Chaitram Thakur (43) are lodged together in the barrack. Satish is prisoner No. 427/26 and lives in Vinayaknagar, New Mhalgi Nagar. Manish Thakur's prisoner number is 4560/26.

It is said that Satish was in deep sleep and his loud snoring kept disturbing Manish, who was lying beside him. After putting up with the problem for a long time, Manish told Satish to keep quiet. Satish was angered by this. The two first exchanged words, and the matter then quickly turned violent.

It is alleged that Satish, losing control in his anger, attacked Manish's face and punched him in the right eye. Manish was seriously injured by the sudden blow. Hearing the scuffle and noise in the barrack, jail guards rushed to the spot. They separated the two and immediately sent the injured Manish to the jail hospital for first aid.

After the incident, the jail administration informed the police. On the complaint of jail constable Sunil Bhagwandas Phulluke (50), Dhantoli police have registered a case against the accused prisoner Satish Paisadeli under Section 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 45 of the Prisons Act, 1894. Dhantoli police are investigating the case.

The attack on a fellow inmate over something as minor as snoring, in a high-security place like a central jail, has raised questions. Discussion has begun over disputes among prisoners and discipline inside the jail.
