Two killed in separate Nagpur road accidents, a bus at Baidyanath Chowk and a truck near Freedom Park
An unidentified pedestrian was run over by a bus and a 61-year-old woman died after being hit by a truck; police have registered cases in both.
Road accidents in Nagpur continue unabated. Two separate accidents have killed an unidentified pedestrian and a 61-year-old woman. One took place at Baidyanath Chowk, where a bus operated by Khurana Travels ran over the pedestrian. The other took place near Freedom Park Chowk, where a woman injured by a speeding truck died during treatment at the Medical hospital. Police have registered cases in both matters and begun investigations at the respective police stations.
The first accident took place at Baidyanath Chowk on Thursday night. According to the information available, at around 10:40 pm a Khurana Travels bus, registration number MH-40-CT-8038, was heading from Baidyanath Chowk towards Imamwada. The driver was taking a turn when a pedestrian was crossing the road. Eyewitnesses said the pedestrian came in front of the bus during the turn and went under the front wheel.
The pedestrian had no chance to get out of the way and died on the spot of severe injuries. Panic and chaos broke out among those present, and people informed the police immediately.
A police team reached the spot on receiving the information and assessed the situation. Police drew up a panchnama at the scene and sent the body to the Medical hospital for post-mortem. The deceased had not been identified, and police kept trying to establish his identity until late at night. Inquiries into the bus driver and other aspects of the accident were also under way.
The second accident took place near Freedom Park Chowk, under Sitabuldi police station limits. The deceased has been identified as Chandrakala Ramdayal Rode (61), a resident of Radhanagar, Narsala Road, Dighori. According to the information available, at around 2:30 pm on November 4, Rode had left home to go to the State Bank of India's main branch at the railway station. The driver of a truck, registration number MH-40-N-4449, hit her hard near Freedom Park Chowk.
The impact was so strong that Rode fell on the road. She suffered serious injuries to her hands, legs and head. People nearby helped and rushed her to the Medical hospital for treatment. Despite the doctors' efforts, she died during treatment because the injuries were severe. The family has been plunged into grief and members have demanded action against the truck driver.
The deceased's son, Amol Rode, filed a complaint at Sitabuldi police station. On this complaint, police have registered a case against the absconding driver of truck MH-40-N-4449. The search for the driver has continued since the accident. Police are looking into the circumstances of the accident and the driver's role.
The two accidents have again raised questions about road safety in the city and the responsibility of drivers. In one, an unidentified pedestrian was killed by a bus at night; in the other, a truck took the life of an elderly woman in broad daylight. Two families have suffered a loss that cannot be made good. The actual circumstances of the accidents and questions of responsibility will become clear only after the police investigation. For now, police are taking further action in both cases.
