Two of three youths travelling home for Diwali died on the spot and the third is in intensive care after two trucks hit their motorcycle near Chandrapur on Friday morning.
Chandrapur, November 6, 2026: Two youths were killed and a third was seriously injured on the Chandrapur-Ghugus road at about 6 am on Friday, November 6, when a truck hit their motorcycle from behind. The accident has left Chandrapur district in mourning, and people are also angry.
According to preliminary information, the youths had set out for their village for the Diwali holidays. They were riding from Ghugus towards Chandrapur early in the morning with bags of clothes. Work is under way on this road to lay a pipeline of the company 'Lloyds Metal' from Surjagad to Ghugus. The road has been dug up extensively for this, and the excavated soil lies spread on the road.
Because of the digging, one side of the road has been closed completely. The carriageway from Chandrapur to Ghugus is shut, and vehicles in both directions were being passed through the single side leading towards Ghugus. People say there were no proper safety arrangements on such a busy road.
According to information, the three youths had just reached the Pandharkawada area when a speeding goods truck coming from behind rammed their motorcycle. The impact was so severe that all three were thrown onto the road. The wheels of the truck that hit them from behind went over one youth. At the same moment, the wheels of a second truck coming from the front, from the Chandrapur side, ran over another youth. Both died on the spot.
The third youth fell on the divider by the roadside and was seriously injured. The motorcycle was smashed and blood lay scattered on the road. Both truck drivers sped away instead of stopping.
Other motorists and people passing on the road helped immediately after the accident. They put the injured and the dead youths into vehicles and took them to a nearby hospital. The seriously injured third youth is being treated in the hospital's ICU, and his condition is reported to be critical.
Eyewitnesses said the other carriageway was opened after the accident. People say that because of the company's negligence and the administration's silence, the bodies of two young men went for post-mortem instead of home, just before Diwali. Grief and anger have spread everywhere. Angry residents are demanding strict legal action against the truck driver responsible and against the company for its negligence.
