Nashik Police have reportedly registered a case against AIMIM leader Imtiaz Jaleel over allegations that he sheltered main accused Nida Khan and helped her evade police action.

The case of alleged forced conversion and sexual harassment linked to the TCS company in Nashik has now taken a political turn. Nashik Police have reportedly registered a case against Imtiaz Jaleel, senior AIMIM leader and former MP. He is accused of sheltering Nida Khan, the main accused in the case, and helping her evade police action. The development has given the investigation a new turn.

The case is currently being investigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The team is trying to establish whether Nida Khan was actually given shelter and who helped keep her away from the police. The case against Jaleel is understood to have been registered in connection with this investigation.

While the search for Nida Khan was on, investigators are examining who played a role in hiding or sheltering her. Jaleel is alleged to have helped shelter Nida Khan and shield her from police action. Who was behind the alleged help, where the accused was kept and what kind of help she received will be important for the investigation. Official confirmation of the allegations and the findings of the probe are yet to emerge.

In the same investigation, Matin Patel, a former AIMIM corporator, has also reportedly been questioned by the SIT. He is said to have been questioned three times about the hiding of Nida Khan. Based on information from this questioning, the investigators are reportedly examining other possible links and routes of help. However, being questioned, or having one's name come up in an investigation, does not mean that the person's involvement in the crime is established.

It must be borne in mind that the registration of a case does not mean the allegations are proved. The investigation must establish how much substance there is in the allegations against Jaleel. The true picture will emerge only after the evidence and the side of those concerned come out.

The SIT of Nashik Police is currently examining the available evidence, statements of the people concerned and the nature of the help the accused allegedly received. Whether financial or other kinds of help were given may also be investigated. The report of the case against Jaleel has set off discussion in Maharashtra's political circles. All eyes are now on what legal action follows, how the questioning of those concerned proceeds and what conclusions emerge from the SIT's probe.
