Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport says its direct services link Central India's business, industrial and farm centres.
Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur, has laid out its flight network under a campaign called 'The Orange Route'. The aim is to make travel easier between the business, industrial and agricultural centres of Central India. According to the airport administration, direct flights are operating from Nagpur to Mumbai, Indore, Ahmedabad and Nanded.
The administration has specifically listed the direct airline services to these cities, citing Nagpur's geographical position. It says this is giving business travel and commercial growth a new dimension.
Mumbai is the country's financial and corporate capital. Several direct flights by Air India, Air India Express and IndiGo are available daily from Nagpur. This is making it easier for traders, investors and IT professionals from Nagpur and Vidarbha to connect with the corporate sector.
IndiGo operates a direct flight to Indore, linking two large industrial cities. The route covers the Indore-Pithampur industrial belt in particular. It has been stated that the pharma sector alone there accounts for about 70% of the total exports of the Indore SEZ. The direct Nagpur-Indore flight has emerged as a major convenience for Vidarbha's pharmaceutical and manufacturing sectors.
Ahmedabad is India's first UNESCO World Heritage City. IndiGo operates direct flights there as well. According to the airport, this route is strengthening business dealings among textile, pharmaceutical and chemicals concerns and large commercial markets, and traders are finding it considerably convenient.
Star Air runs a direct service to Nanded. According to Nagpur airport, the flight connects agro-processing, textile and MSME clusters in the Marathwada region directly with Nagpur's market. This is giving a big boost to the region's agricultural trade.
Airport officials believe economic opportunities grow quickly when cities and industries come closer together. According to them, better air connectivity cuts travel time and speeds up policy and business decisions. The officials say Nagpur airport is no longer merely a transit point but has become a major runway for industrial development and logistics. The vision of 'The Orange Route' is to strengthen industrial development through smooth connectivity.
Meanwhile, maintenance work is also under way at the airport's MRO facility. An Air India Express aircraft, flight IX 9005, landed at Nagpur airport from Muscat on Wednesday night for technical maintenance. The aircraft operates between Bengaluru and Muscat. It has been taken to the MRO facility at Nagpur airport for necessary maintenance and servicing, where the work is being handled by AI Engineering Services Limited, a government subsidiary company.
Another aircraft that had come to Nagpur earlier for maintenance has had its work completed in full. It will leave for Bengaluru once the process is over.
