A bird struck the nose of IndiGo flight 6E-6573 from Nagpur to Delhi, with 164 passengers on board. All of them were reported safe.
According to the information available, the flight left Nagpur airport for Delhi at 9:20 pm. As it reached the skies over Delhi, a bird flew into its nose. The bird hit occurred over Delhi.
Passengers on board were alarmed by the impact. After the incident, the aircraft circled in the air for some time before making a safe landing in Delhi. The bird strike left a large mark on the nose of the aircraft.
Separately, a Kuwait Airways Boeing 777-369ER, registration 9K-AOM, left Nagpur airport after completing a detailed technical inspection and repair, known as C-check maintenance.
The aircraft had come to Nagpur for maintenance at the MRO facility of Air India Engineering Services Limited. It took off from Nagpur at 4.45 on Sunday.
The IndiGo incident has once again set off serious discussion on aviation safety and bird hits.
Experts say that strict attention must be paid to waste management and cleanliness around airports, so that the movement of birds can be reduced and passenger safety ensured.
The regular maintenance of such large aircraft, and the high-level technical upkeep of an IndiGo flight, at the MRO facility of Air India Engineering Services Limited in Nagpur is a major achievement for the region. It opens the way for world-class aviation repair facilities to become available in tier-2 cities of the country as well.
