The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is preparing to build affordable homes for workers and officers employed in Additional Butibori. MHADA is working quickly on housing and commercial projects for the poor, the middle class and other sections, and the Butibori initiative is part of that effort.

MHADA has planned the project on 35 hectares of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) land in Additional Butibori, and has sent the state government a proposal seeking the land. The government is said to have responded positively.

MHADA expects the government to approve the transfer of the MIDC land soon and take it forward. The proposal also specifies rates. If the land is transferred to MHADA at the likely rate, workers could soon get affordable housing and residential facilities. If the project goes ahead, workers, working people and officers in the industrial area could get affordable homes along with residential amenities.

According to MHADA, the proposed project will not be limited to houses. It will have 1, 2 and 3 BHK flats, and a hospital and a school will also be developed. There will be several infrastructure facilities for residents, and gardens are also planned. MHADA has thus shown that it is preparing to provide social amenities along with housing.

MHADA has also held a meeting on the project with the Butibori Manufacturing Association (BMA). According to MHADA, the association has agreed to the project. The association also wants local workers to get affordable homes and residential facilities, which would ease their lives and strengthen the industrial area. MHADA has also held several meetings on the project at Mantralaya.

MHADA chief officer Dr Vijay Ingole said work on the project is under way and that the aim is to provide residential facilities to people in the industrial area. He said the land has been sought from the government. If cheap land is available, citizens will be able to get affordable housing, he said. He added that the government has responded well and that meetings are being held from time to time.
