Motorists in Navi Mumbai and Thane will face traffic changes as girders for a bridge are installed on Thane-Belapur Road under the Airoli-Katai Naka elevated road project. Traffic on the road will be shut completely at night for the work, on October 4 and from October 9 to 11.

The MMRDA will carry out the girder work. The decision to close the road was taken for safety. Movement on the road will be completely barred from 11 pm to 6 am on October 4, 9, 10 and 11.

Parking of any vehicle on Thane-Belapur Road is also prohibited during this period. Vehicles connected with MMRDA work are exempt. The change has been made so that the girder work can be completed safely.

To spare motorists trouble during the closure, Navi Mumbai Traffic Police have fixed different alternative routes. Motorists have been asked to follow only the routes suggested by the traffic police and, if possible, not to plan travel through the area at night. According to Dr Rahul Khade, Deputy Commissioner of Navi Mumbai Traffic Police, the alternative routes differ by type of vehicle.

Vehicles with six wheels or more heading towards Belapur can reach their destination from the Mukund company in Digha through the internal roads of the MIDC. Four-wheelers should turn right at Bharat Bijlee Chowk and head towards Airoli Fire Brigade Chowk. After that, they can proceed via Khedekar Chowk by taking the left.

Motorists heading towards Thane will have to turn right at the Rabale Naka signal. They have been routed onward through the internal roads of the MIDC via the Mukund company. For vehicles heading towards Patni, the route given is Rabale Naka, Diwagaon Circle and Patni Road.

Navi Mumbai Traffic Police have made the necessary plans to keep traffic smooth during the girder work. Even so, those travelling on this road at night should plan their journeys around the closure hours. The road will be fully closed from 11 pm to 6 am on October 4 and October 9 to 11, so motorists should use the alternative routes. Once the Airoli-Katai Naka elevated road is complete, it will help improve traffic in the area.
