MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar met Sanjeev Jaiswal, vice-president of MHADA, in Mumbai to get the proposal for housing in Ballarpur moving. Jaiswal is also MHADA's chief executive officer. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Mungantiwar asked that 1,000 affordable homes be built in Ballarpur.

The meeting also took up speeding the next steps on the 2,004 homes already sanctioned at New Chandrapur. The problem of roads and basic amenities in the MHADA areas was also discussed. Jaiswal responded positively and has promised to hold a Zoom meeting within the next three days.

The aim of the demand is that ordinary and needy families in Ballarpur get a secure, affordable home of their own. Mungantiwar said the necessary proposal should be submitted and action on it begun immediately. He also asked that, keeping in mind the housing need in Ballarpur city, the next steps be taken at the administrative level. The main objective of the proposal is to let economically weaker families fulfil the dream of owning a home. He held detailed discussions with senior MHADA officials on completing the requirements for the proposal and taking the matter forward. Responding positively to his demand, Jaiswal assured that the necessary action would be taken.

In the New Chandrapur area, 2,004 homes have already been sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Mungantiwar had followed up continuously on this project at the level of the government and MHADA. He drew Jaiswal's attention to the need for the next stage of the sanctioned homes to move quickly, for eligible beneficiaries to receive them, and for the necessary implementation steps to be completed soon.

Mungantiwar also set out his position on amenities in the MHADA areas. He says that when homes are handed over, good roads, water, electricity, drainage and other necessary facilities in the area are equally important. He laid particular stress on ensuring that people do not end up with a home but no road to reach it or no basic facilities. He asked MHADA officials to take note of the difficulties faced by residents and provide infrastructure. An assurance was given that positive steps would be taken on this issue as well.

Mungantiwar's follow-up on housing in Chandrapur district is not new. He has pressed the matter at various levels of government for some time. Pursuing the idea of a large housing project at New Chandrapur, he coordinated with the departments concerned, and the 2,004-home project was sanctioned as a result. Now, while speeding up the next steps on it, he has begun an effort to take forward a proposal for another 1,000 homes for Ballarpur.

At the Mumbai meeting, the further action on the 2,004 sanctioned homes in Chandrapur, the 1,000 proposed homes in Ballarpur, and the problem of roads and basic amenities in MHADA areas were all discussed positively. This has cleared the way for fresh momentum, at the administrative level, on the housing needs of people in Chandrapur and Ballarpur.
