The weather has changed sharply across the state over the past few days. Many areas are facing the sting of "October heat", and residents are struggling with the sultry conditions. The monsoon has begun its retreat. With rain likely today in some districts, including those in Konkan, accompanied by thunder and lightning, the weather department has issued a "yellow alert".

Rain is forecast for Konkan. Weather is also likely to remain somewhat unsettled in Gadchiroli district of Vidarbha, where stormy rain with lightning is expected, and the district has been put under a yellow alert. The weather could change suddenly, particularly in the afternoon or around evening.

Rain has paused for a while in many parts of the state. Meanwhile, the heat and humidity have begun to rise, and the effect of October heat is now being felt. With rain with lightning likely in some districts today, there could be some relief.

Rain with lightning likely in Kolhapur too

Sindhudurg in Konkan and Kolhapur in western Maharashtra are also likely to see rain with lightning. Cloudy conditions may develop in some places, with light to moderate showers. The sky is likely to stay clear over the rest of the state.

Rise in temperature

With less rain now, daytime temperatures are rising. The heat is likely to be more intense, and humidity may also increase. With harsh sun on one side and the chance of rain on the other, ups and downs in the weather are likely to continue for the next few days. The weather department has appealed to citizens to take the necessary precautions, keeping the local forecast in mind.

October heat hits Pune

Heat has been felt intensely in Pune from the very start of October. Both the maximum and minimum temperatures in the city have been rising steadily for the past few days, and Punekars are now facing October heat head-on. On Monday (October 5), the city recorded a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 19.7 degrees Celsius.

Overall, while heat and humidity are rising in cities such as Pune, rain with lightning is likely in Konkan, Gadchiroli, Sindhudurg and Kolhapur, and the current forecast suggests both faces of the weather may be seen over the next few days.
