The Maltapur primary health centre, which serves people in the western part of Wai taluka, is currently running from just two rooms in the village chavdi. The matter of constructing a well-equipped building of its own for the centre has been stuck for several years, forcing people to take treatment with limited facilities.

Rohit Wadkar alleges that the issue remains unresolved because the process of taking possession of the land and measuring it has stalled. He said the Zilla Parishad administration is working under political pressure. Wadkar has warned that if no concrete action is taken by Dussehra, he will go on an indefinite fast unto death along with villagers.

The Maltapur primary health centre is an important health centre for people in the western area of Wai taluka. Even so, it is confined to two rooms of the chavdi. Given the growing need, the centre should get a separate, fully equipped building.

Wadkar expressed anguish that despite persistent follow-up, the administration is not taking any firm decision. He said it is unfortunate that a question concerning the health of villagers has been left hanging for years.

At the heart of the matter is the land at survey number 87/35 in Maltapur. The land is said to be in the name of the Zilla Parishad's chief executive officer, but the process of actually obtaining possession has not been completed. The health department had written to the revenue department on July 3 seeking measurement of the land.

Wadkar alleges that the action that should have followed has not been taken. He has demanded that the administration give a clear timeline on when the land will be measured, when possession will be handed over and when construction of the building will begin.

Rohit Wadkar has also questioned the working style of Chief Executive Officer Yashani Nagarajan. He alleges that political pressure is being exerted on officials and the taluka health department, causing obstacles in the work.

He also said that Makarand Aba and Dinkar Shinde, who earlier criticised each other over this issue, are now together, yet the health centre issue has not been resolved. He demands that the administration not merely give assurances but actually start the work. If a concrete decision and action are not taken by Dussehra, Wadkar will begin an indefinite fast unto death along with people of the western area.
