The monsoon, which had stayed away for the past four months, has begun its return journey. On the way out, however, a low-pressure area has formed in the Bay of Bengal. It is expected to change the weather over most parts of the country.
The low-pressure area in the east-central Bay of Bengal appears to be intensifying. As the system is moving west-northwest, it is forecast to turn into a cyclone. If a cyclone forms, it will be named "Arnav". The coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, as well as Maharashtra, may be affected. Some parts of Maharashtra could also feel its impact, it is being said.
According to the weather department's forecast, some districts of the state may receive moderate to heavy rain over the three days from October 27 to 29. A rain warning has been issued for some districts of Vidarbha in particular.
Tomorrow, October 27, a yellow alert for rain with lightning and gusty winds has been issued for Gadchiroli district. Rain will fall in some parts of the district, with wind speeds of 30 to 40 kmph.
On October 28, an orange alert has been issued for some other districts of Vidarbha. Rain is also likely in other parts of the rest of Maharashtra. Heavy to very heavy rain has been forecast for Gadchiroli district.
On the same day, moderate to heavy rain is forecast in the ghat areas of Kolhapur and in Hingoli, Nanded, Chandrapur, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha and Yavatmal districts. Some areas may see rain with thunder and lightning.
On October 29, rain is also forecast in Ratnagiri and the ghat sections of Nashik, Pune and Satara. A rain warning may be issued for these districts as per the weather department's updated forecast.
Against the backdrop of these changes in the weather, citizens have been urged to heed the weather department's official advisories.
