Hyundai Motor India inaugurated its Talegaon manufacturing plant in Pune on October 14, 2026. The event was held in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung was also present. The development is being seen as significant for Maharashtra's automobile sector.
The company plans to invest up to Rs 11,000 crore in the plant. Notably, the project will allow hybrid cars to be built along with petrol-engine cars.
The Talegaon plant currently has an annual production capacity of 1.70 lakh vehicles. The company aims to raise this to 3.20 lakh vehicles by 2030. The Chennai plant has an annual capacity of 8.24 lakh vehicles. After the expansion is complete, the combined capacity of the two plants in India could reach 11.44 lakh vehicles. This could help meet domestic demand and also boost exports.
Production of the new Hyundai Venue is being carried out exclusively at the Talegaon plant. The SUV will be supplied to customers in India as well as international markets. The company wants to expand exports of the Venue to more than 35 countries. The plant also has a separate facility with an annual capacity to make 1.50 lakh engines.
The Talegaon plant uses Hyundai's E-Forest digital manufacturing platform. Technologies such as AI-based quality checks, automated defect detection and predictive maintenance allow the production process to be monitored. Digital simulation and augmented reality are used for planning and staff training. This could help improve production efficiency.
According to Hyundai, the company has 55 supplier partners in Maharashtra. These suppliers have invested about Rs 4,600 crore in the state. Their network has created more than 18,000 jobs. The company has completed 30 years in India. It has also crossed the milestones of about 1 crore passenger vehicles sold and 40 lakh vehicles exported from the country.
The expansion of the Talegaon plant could prove important for Maharashtra's automobile industry. Rising production capacity, new technology and export plans are expected to give a push to employment and vehicle manufacturing in the state.
