There is worrying news for account holders of SBI, the country's largest bank. It has been claimed that the data of about 3.75 lakh customers has been leaked. The claim remains only a claim and has not been fully verified.
A hacker group named Siriussim says it has obtained details of 3,75,000 accounts and 2,722 PDF files. The information was shared on X by CyberPulse56, a cyber security-related account.
The leaked data is said to include customers' personal information, loan applications, account-opening forms, addresses and documents. This has added to the concern.
If the claim turns out to be true, customers could be directly affected. Cases of identity theft, bank fraud and fake loans could rise. That is, if the data proves genuine, it could also be used in cyber fraud.
So far, SBI has not issued any official statement on the matter and has not responded. It is therefore unclear whether customers' data has actually been leaked.
SBI customers need to be careful. They should not trust any unknown call, link or message. They should not share personal information with strangers and should not tell anyone their ATM PIN.
If your bank account shows a transaction you are not aware of, do not ignore it. Inform your bank immediately.
Some signs can show whether an account has been misused: money being deducted from the account without your knowledge, a message about an unknown transaction on your phone, someone trying to withdraw money from your bank, a sudden OTP on your phone, or a notification about a login to your bank account. If you notice any of these, take note.
If you discover any kind of fraud, you can file a complaint with your bank or on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
