Mumbai, October 19, 2026: Cases of fraud over mobile phones are rising these days. Fraudsters pose as government officials, frighten people and extort money from them. Many people are falling victim to such cases. Story TV's new microdrama series, 'Scam 2024 - The Digital Arrest Story', has now come before viewers on this subject.
The series stars Vidya Malvade, known for 'Chak De! India', along with Prateik Sahajpal and Vineet Raina in the lead roles. It has been produced by Small Town Boyz and directed by Alok Sharma. It can be watched only on the Story TV app.
In the story, Vidya Malvade plays Priya Sharma. This is her first time working in a microdrama. Priya is an ordinary working woman. She is defrauded in the name of a digital arrest, and her life changes completely. She then learns of a large gang that has cheated many such people. The story shows how money is extracted from people through false identities, intimidation and threats. The series shows how Priya fights this fraud.
Speaking about her character, Vidya Malvade said, "I have earlier played women who fight on the field and never give up. But while playing Priya, I felt anyone among us could be in her place. Our parents, neighbours or an acquaintance could also fall victim to such fraud.
Priya is educated, alert and careful about everything. Even so, everything is taken from her within a few hours. What about those who do not know much about the digital world? That is why it is important for this story to reach people. If even one family watches this show and decides to be careful on receiving such a suspicious call, I will feel the story has served a purpose."
On her experience of working in microdrama, Vidya added, "I had stayed away from microdrama until now. But this story caught my attention. I also liked that this medium can reach people directly. People will watch this series on their mobiles, and calls for such frauds also come on mobiles. So the subject of the story and the medium used to tell it are a good match."
Prateik Sahajpal, the 'Bigg Boss 15' runner-up, plays Vicky Mandal in the series. He is the main man of the gang of fraudsters. Speaking about his role, Prateik said, "While playing the man behind these crimes, I understood how carefully this kind of fraud is planned. It is not just one or two people, but a large gang working to trap people within moments. I want the audience to feel angry at Vicky.
Because if people feel angry at such men, they will try to identify the fraudsters around them. Working with Story TV was a different experience for me. In my view, microdrama is the next big step in the world of entertainment. I felt this on every day of the shoot."
Vineet Raina plays a suspended officer named Raj Thakur in the series. He fights this gang of fraudsters. Speaking about his role, Vineet said, "Raj did his job honestly, yet he was punished for it. Even today, many such officers are quietly fighting these crimes. I have respect for them.
This series does not merely entertain, but draws attention to a serious problem in society. Story TV is making a different kind of effort through microdrama. I accepted this role because I got the chance to do a story that holds people's attention and also makes them alert."
Sandeep Arora appears as Anand in the series. Priyanshi Tripathi, Pooja Jha, Ayushi Tyagi, Sheetal Tejwani, Ashok K. Jha and Yogesh Pawar also have important roles.
According to figures, cyber fraud caused losses of Rs 22,495 crore in India in 2025, and 28.15 lakh complaints of cyber crime were registered. According to figures presented at a cyber security workshop organised by the government, complaints had risen by about 24 per cent compared with the previous year.
'Scam 2024 - The Digital Arrest Story' depicts fraud methods such as posing as a government official, showing fake documents and demanding money under threat. The story's message is to beware of such calls and to recognise fraud. The series can now be watched only on the Story TV app.
