Dussehra is considered highly auspicious among the three and a half muhurats for buying electrical and electronic goods for the home. As a result, electronics markets in the city and its suburbs are seeing sizeable crowds of customers. People have shown a growing inclination to buy smart TVs, refrigerators, washing machines and microwave ovens.
There is a deep-rooted belief in Indian culture that bringing new goods into the home brings happiness and prosperity. On the occasion, electronics brands and shopkeepers offer big discounts, cashback and "buy one get one" deals. For costly items such as smart TVs and refrigerators, no-cost EMI, or easy instalments, is also available. Salaried people receive a Diwali bonus or festival allowance around this time, which leaves them with money to spend.
Many people book goods in advance, and shops are crowded on Dussehra with customers coming to take their purchases home. There was an air of enthusiasm in the electrical market. Prices of electrical goods have risen by about 7 to 8 per cent over the past few months, yet customers have been more inclined to buy on the Dussehra muhurat.
Prices are set to rise further, so buyers will have to pay more later. With this in mind, families are buying early and prefer to bring home new goods on the Dussehra muhurat. For this reason, there is an emphasis on replacing old household appliances with new ones.
Prices of electrical goods have gone up by 8 to 10 per cent because of the rise in copper and plastic prices, making household goods costlier. Even so, people's inclination to buy new goods on the Dussehra muhurat has grown, and shops are getting a good response from customers.
Electronics markets are packed with customers, and people are giving priority to buying new goods. Because of attractive discounts, no-cost EMI and cashback offers, demand is highest for smart TVs, refrigerators, 5G smartphones and washing machines.
