Virur police have seized two tractor-trolleys in a case of illegal sand transport at Vihirgaon. The action was taken during a blockade set up in the early hours of 1 October 2026. According to police, each trolley was carrying about one brass of sand and the drivers had no permit. Goods worth Rs 9.06 lakh have been seized.

Amaldar Avinash Bhimrao Bodhale and police amaldar Sachin Shere of Virur police station were on patrol within the station's limits in the early hours of 1 October 2026. They received word from a secret informant that sand was being carried illegally and without a permit from Vihirgaon village. Acting on this, police set up a blockade at the Vihirgaon bus stand with their staff.

During the blockade, two tractors without number plates were seen coming from the direction of Vihirgaon. Suspicious, police stopped them. On questioning, the drivers gave their names as Surjeet Warlu Soyam (22, resident of Vihirgaon) and Sunil Maroti Rohane (38, resident of Vihirgaon).

When police checked the tractor-trolleys, they found about one brass of sand in each trolley. Its value was put at about Rs 6,000. When asked for a permit for transporting sand, it emerged that the drivers had no valid permit.

On further questioning, both drivers said the tractors belonged to Dhanraj Diwakar Sherki (34), a resident of Kohpara, and that they were carrying the sand illegally at his instance.

Police took possession of the sand, one brass in each trolley (valued at Rs 6,000), two tractors worth Rs 7 lakh and two trolleys worth Rs 2 lakh, a total of Rs 9,06,000.

On the complaint of Amaldar Avinash Bodhale, a case has been registered against the accused Surjeet Soyam, Sunil Rohane and tractor owner Dhanraj Sherki under Sections 303(2), 49 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Assistant sub-inspector Subhash Purushottam Kulmethe is investigating further under the guidance of police inspector Rajendra Devidas Gaikwad.
