State-run BSNL has announced a 365-day prepaid plan at Rs 2,799 with 3GB daily data, which it says costs Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200 less than private operators' annual plans.
As mobile recharge rates keep rising, customers are looking for plans that offer more for less. State-run telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has made an annual recharge plan available that gives 365 days of validity on a single recharge.
The plan is priced at Rs 2,799. It offers 3GB of high-speed data every day for the whole year, unlimited voice calling and 100 free SMS. The company claims the plan works out Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200 cheaper than the annual plans of private telecom operators.
BSNL India announced the annual plan on its official X account. Customers on the Rs 2,799 prepaid plan get 365 days of validity, so they will not need to recharge repeatedly through the year.
Besides 3GB of daily high-speed data, the plan offers unlimited voice calling on any network across India and free national roaming. It also includes 100 free SMS a day. Calling, internet and messaging are thus covered for a full year on a single recharge.
According to the company, the plan is Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200 cheaper than annual recharge plans of other private operators, which is why it is being described as more economical.
Meanwhile, BSNL has in recent days also stressed expanding its network across the country. The company has put up lakhs of new 4G towers nationwide, and all of them are said to be 5G-ready. The state-run operator is preparing to launch 5G service soon, and the planning required for it has begun.
BSNL has also introduced another prepaid plan with 365 days of validity, which comes with insurance cover along with telecom benefits. Priced at Rs 2,499, it includes personal accident insurance cover of Rs 1 lakh and cyber insurance cover of Rs 10,000.
This plan also offers unlimited voice calling across India and free national roaming. The difference is that it gives 2GB of high-speed data a day along with 100 free SMS. The accident cover includes road accidents, burns from fire, snakebite, lightning strikes and electric shocks.
The question is which of the two plans is more beneficial. The Rs 2,799 plan may suit customers who use more internet every day, as it gives 3GB of data daily. Those who put insurance cover first may consider the Rs 2,499 plan, which has a daily data limit of 2GB but adds accident and cyber insurance benefits. Customers choosing a recharge should therefore weigh their internet use, calling needs and insurance cover.
