State-run telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) had some time ago introduced a Re 1 prepaid plan offer for its users. There is now a major update: the company has decided to extend the offer's validity. The offer has been available to users for quite some time.

The company had also made some changes to the plan. Earlier, the Re 1 Freedom 2.0 plan came with 30 days of validity. It is now being offered with 24 days of validity, which means the plan's service validity is only 24 days.

The plan includes unlimited voice calling, 100 SMS a day and 1GB of data a day. Following the extension, the offer will now be available to customers until November 9, 2026. Customers can avail of it by visiting a BSNL customer service centre near their home or an authorised retailer.

The offer is only for new users. Once a user has taken these benefits with a new SIM card, the company will not offer the same user this plan again.

The company has not only extended the Re 1 offer. It has also extended by three more months the tenure of its CMD (Chairman and Managing Director), Robert J Ravi. Ravi is the company's interim CMD, and his tenure has been extended repeatedly for more than a year. Under his leadership, the company has successfully switched on 1 lakh 4G sites built entirely on indigenous technology.

BSNL currently offers the cheapest prepaid plans in the entire telecom industry. This is why its ARPU (average revenue per user) is the lowest, yet the company continues to show growth. It keeps adding new users to its prepaid portfolio, particularly 4G users, which will help raise the company's total revenue.
