White toxic foam seen again on Indrayani river at Alandi ahead of Sant Dnyaneshwar Sanjeevan Samadhi event

Pollution in the Indrayani river is in the spotlight once again. Thick layers of toxic white foam were seen floating on the water in the Alandi stretch of the river. The river is a centre of religious faith for lakhs of devotees, and concern over its worsening condition has grown. The report is from Pimpri Chinchwad, dated November 5, 2026.

The Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Sanjeevan Samadhi ceremony is approaching in Alandi, and a large number of devotees are expected to attend. Residents are especially worried for this reason. During the event, many devotees go to the river and perform achaman, that is, take water in the hand and drink it.

Seeing the foam clearly visible on the water, questions are now being raised about the health risks of coming into contact with the contaminated water.

Local residents say that despite the river's religious and local importance, no permanent measures have been taken to stop this repeated pollution. They have questioned this.

A woman resident said the authorities should trace the sources through which sewage water is entering the river and bring them under control. She demanded that water samples be taken immediately, tested and the results made public. In her view, strict action should be taken against those who break environmental rules and release polluted water into the river.

Residents also said the Indrayani is not merely a water source. It is an important part of the faith of lakhs of devotees and of the lives of local communities. They have demanded that the authorities find out the exact cause of the repeatedly appearing white foam and take action against those polluting the river.
